Contractors registered with HMRC’s Construction Industry Scheme are eligible for our CIS pay model. This provides the freedom of self-employment whilst reducing the administrative aspect self employed contractors face.
Once registered with Apex, CIS workers are classed as being employed by Apex.
Your agency will send across your hours, and payment for these hours, through to Apex, where we will deduct our margin, and the relevant tax. Your tax treatment is determined by HMRC when we verify you during the registration process.
We send any tax deducted directly to HMRC so you don’t have to worry about it.
There’s no joining fee to register with Apex. Our competitive margin structure is quoted upon registration and is based upon your chosen payment option and the amount you earn. It’s also taken directly from the funds we receive from your agency before any other deductions are made, e.g. CIS tax.
The following benefits (and more) come as standard with our Self-Employed (CIS) service…

CIS Registered Contractors
Our self-employed option is great for contractors who enjoy the flexibility of being self-employed, but also appreciate the continuity of employment that an Umbrella company can provide.
You must be registered with the HMRC’s Construction Industry Scheme to be eligible for this pay option.
We support our contractors from the very beginning of the process, guiding you through registration and chasing your pay from the agency. Our Client Liaison Officers are on hand to go through any queries you may have and work hard to resolve any issues that may arise.
Every contractor we pay has to go through our compliance process during registration to ensure they can be paid. This makes sure that 100% of our contractors are 100% compliant.
You work hard and deserve to be paid correctly, on time and with the minimum of fuss. At Apex, we’re dedicated to making sure that happens without fail, each and every week.
We don’t believe that you should have to deal with hidden extra costs or legislation that you weren’t expecting, which is why we are clear upon registration what we charge and what is expected of you.
We always ask security questions before we’ll engage with you. If you don’t pass these questions, we won’t give any information out. This helps reduce fraud, safeguarding your information in the process.
