Overnight Allowances

See above link which is from the RHA and explains the allowances for overnight allowance for Lorry drivers.

Generally reasonably generous for overnight drivers but unless you use the benchmark scale rate payments you need to get an approval notice from HMRC.

Overseas drivers have a different set of rules.

If not using the overnight allowance then we can allow the following types of expenditure whilst they are working – but will need receipts.

Food/Drink
Showers
Cleaning uniform and bedding
Purchase of bedding
Parking expenditure
Mileage if required in own car
Equipment used for work – ie Sat Nav, safety boots, prescription glasses(if required for driving), Hi Vis clothing,
Digital tacho Cards

Some drivers claim for food cooking, refrigeration expenditure if required such as Fridge, invertor, microwave, gas cooker.
Further Drivers claim for Laptops and TV’s – TV’s are generally not allowable but Laptops if required for work ie emails and updating driving logs can be deducted.

None overnight allowances

See also the link above and point one up to £25 per day(checks required)

Other than this from the list above some expenditure will still be relevant:

Parking expenditure
Mileage if required in own car
Equipment used for work – ie Sat Nav, safety boots, prescription glasses(if required for driving), Hi-Vis clothing,
Digital tacho Cards
